  • Board of Education Appoints New Superintendent

    At a special meeting on July 30, the District 200 Board of Education named Dr. Jeffrey Schuler as the new superintendent of schools. Dr. Schuler begins his tenure in District 200 on September 2, 2014. The Board selected Dr. Schuler following an extensive interview process with several highly qualified candidates.

    Dr. Schuler most recently led the 4,800-student Kaneland Community Unit School District 302 in Kaneland, IL, where he served as superintendent since 2010. His accomplishments in Kaneland 302 extend over several areas including:
    • facilitating and developing a strategic plan called Vision 2014;
    • increasing the number of capstone and advanced courses at the high school level;
    • leading community engagement committees including a Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Finance Advisory Committee, Facilities Planning Committee, Kaneland Foundation and Hall of Fame;
    • implementing various comprehensive programs that ensure students social and emotional well-being; and
    • purchasing and implementing new technology devices to bring the ratio of student to device down to 3:1.

    Dr. Schuler’s multi-year contract in District 200 includes a base salary of $225,000. His contract can be found on the Superintendent Page of the District 200 website.

    “We were very fortunate to have several highly qualified candidates apply for the position,” Board President Barbara Intihar said. “Of all the candidates, Dr. Schuler’s proven ability to connect with the community, promote student learning, and build instructional leadership within the staff – all recommendations of the ENGAGE 200 initiative – stood out most clearly. Those qualities, plus his experience navigating fiscal and operational challenges in a complex unit school district, led us to choose him as our next superintendent. We welcome him to District 200, and we look forward to a long professional relationship with him.”

    Dr. Schuler began his career in education as a teacher of gifted students at Joyce Kilmer Elementary School in District 21 in Wheeling, IL. He has also taught at the middle school level and served as a middle school principal in Northbrook School District 27. Prior to becoming superintendent of schools in Kaneland 302 in July of 2010, he served as the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources from 2006-2010. He has served as adjunct faculty at Loyola University, Aurora University and Northern Illinois University. More details about Dr. Schuler’s background can be found on the Superintendent Page of the District 200 website.

    “District 200 is an excellent, high-achieving school district that provides an exemplary education for the families in the communities it serves,” said Superintendent Schuler. “I am eager to serve as the superintendent in such a strong community that values education. I look forward to building and fostering strong relationships with our staff, students, parents and community members to continue delivering a high-quality education to our students.”

    As evidenced by his implementation of Vision 2014, Dr. Schuler has experience with engaging the community in schools and understands the importance and significance of utilizing community feedback to build a strategic vision for the future. While Dr. Schuler’s appointment will be a change in leadership, it will also provide continuity as our Board begins discussions about the findings and recommendations of Engage 200.

    The Board of Education will host a formal welcome reception for Dr. Schuler at a later date with details to follow.

    Faith Dahlquist, Interim Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, will continue to serve as interim superintendent until Dr. Schuler assumes his position on September 2nd.
