Schoogle Day, Part Deux
On Wednesday, more than 300 staff members gathered for the District's 2nd Annual Schoogle Day. The day of professional learning is open to all staff in the District and focuses on all the applications available in Google including Google Apps for Education (GAFE), Google Classroom, Gmail, Calendar, Sites, Forms and more.
Over the past several years, with the increased integration of technology in the classroom, the District's Educational Services Department, Technology Department and building-level staff have been working together through the Future of Instruction and Technology (FIT) committee to navigate and plan what learning should look like in our classrooms both now and in the future. This committee also discusses and communicates best practices on integrating technology in our classrooms.
To provide support and professional development for our staff, we offer school, team and individual training; an interactive, on-demand website with 24/7 professional development; a Week of Learning in August; events like Schoogle Day and more.
Eric Slaughter, the District's Google & Cloud Apps Administrator, was instrumental in planning and coordinating Schoogle Day, Part Deux and believes the day of professional development was successful and looks forward to what next year will bring. "I'm so impressed with the number of staff that attended on their own time. Our staff is incredibly dedicated to our students and their learning. Technology is evolving and we have to offer opportunities for our staff to keep up with it," says Slaughter.
Slaughter was thrilled with the private support of incentive items such as gift cards, devices and subscriptions from Barnes & Noble, Normandy Builders, Dunkin Donuts Wheaton, CDW and Tiger Direct.
