Parenting Seminars

Each semester our Social Work Department coordinates a helpful line-up of Parenting Seminars. In our continuing effort to help parents navigate the complicated world that their adolescents exist in, we are offer sessions will address some of the issues that parents struggle with as they attempt to provide the guidance and nurturing necessary to move their teen toward young adulthood.

Raising Health Kids - Wednesday, April 19 12:00 -1:00 p.m.
In a busy world, being healthy isn't always easy. Especially when you're running around getting kids all over, a healthy snack isn't always available. Let's not even start on how we pull kids away from the TV screen!  Join Dr. Jim Claussen, DC, as he shares some tips on how to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into their busy lives. Dr. Claussen is an international speaker that has spoken on multiple topics in all levels of the health arena, specializing in holistic health.

Helping Children Cope with Depression - Wednesday, April 26  12:00 -1:00 p.m.

This workshop will explore “the common cold” of all disorders:  Depression.  Join Dr. Michael Maniacci, as he discusses what depression looks like for children of all ages.  He will provide strategies parents can use to help children understand and cope with symptoms of depression.

Don’t Be Anxious About Your Child’s Anxiety! - Wednesday, May 3   12:00 -1:00 p.m.

This workshop will focus on helping parents identify effective strategies for helping their child manage anxiety. We will look at common strategies that are often used and talk about the effectiveness of each strategy, as well as, go over tips for managing one's own anxiety as the parent.  Dr. Jung is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and has been practicing with Meier Clinics in Wheaton, IL for 10 years. She works with children, adolescents, women, and couples within individual, family and marital counseling.

Child and Teen Wellness:  How Serious is Stress? - Wednesday, May 10   12:00 -1:00 p.m.

Join Dr. Nicole Cruz, Pediatric Neuropsychologist, and Dr. Emily Edlynn, Pediatric Health Psychologist, from Amita Center for Pediatric Brain/Women & Children’s Center, as they explore the effects of stress on our children and how emotional concerns can interfere with optimal overall health and daily functioning.
