$10.25 an hour |

$ 9.50 an hour |
All Substitute Aides are paid on an hourly basis.
Aides generally work 6.5 hours for a "full day" and 3.25 hours for a "half day," however, hours can vary. Please listen to the hours listed on SubFinder when accepting positions. |
Long Term Substitutes
To be considered "long-term", the substitute must work for fifteen (15) or more consecutive days in the same assignment. The substitute receives long-term pay, retroactive to the first day of the assignment. Substitute teachers working in an assignment for four (4) weeks or longer must be highly qualified as per No Child Left Behind legislation (NCLB).
If there is a break in service during the first fifteen (15) days, the substitute will not receive the long-term rate of pay retroactive to the first day. Instead, the first day worked after the break will count as the first day of the assignment. The substitute will have to work an additional fourteen (14) consecutive days prior to receiving the higher pay rate (total consecutive days = 15). The long-term pay rate is then paid retro-actively to the first day worked after the break in service. If the substitute does not work fifteen (15) consecutive days after the break, they will not receive the higher rate of pay.
If the substitute is absent due to personal or family illness or any other emergency after completing fifteen (15) consecutive days, it will not be considered a break in service. Upon return to work, they will continue to receive the higher rate of pay established. However, long-term substitutes do not receive compensation for days absent.
Transition Day
Only one (1) transition day is allowed for the substitute and teacher to work together before the substitute begins the long-term assignment. In cases where two substitutes are filling one position (AM/PM), each sub is allowed ½ day transition. This transition is paid at the regular daily substitute rate, and is not counted as part of the long-term assignment.
Daily Long-Term Substitutes
Long-term substitutes paid on a daily basis should work on teacher workdays. They have the option to attend inservice/institute activities, but they are not paid for these days unless requested to attend by the building Principal. They are not penalized for “missing” a day of work, they are just not paid for that day. If a long-term substitute is working during parent-teacher conferences, they should attend the conferences. They will be paid for these additional hours.
Planned Long Term Absences & Vacancies
For substitutes who teach one full year, and are certified and highly qualified in the area they are teaching, he or she will be placed on the teacher salary schedule and receive all benefits as per the WWEA Agreement. For substitutes who teach 90 or more consecutive days in the same assignment, but less than one year, he or she will receive a BA Step 1 per diem rate with pro-rated sick and personal leave. Health insurance is not provided. For substitutes who teach longer than four weeks, he or she must be highly qualified in the area they are teaching.
Substitute Procedures
Arrival Time – ½ hour before start of class
It is imperative that substitute teachers arrive one half-hour before the start of classes. Habitual tardiness will not be tolerated and will result in forfeiture of their position as a substitute teacher in District 200. This is required for both full day and half-day assignments. There is a building schedule list in the Substitute Handbook. Upon arrival at the school, substitutes should report to the office to sign in, check the mailbox, secure schedules, seating charts and other pertinent information. At this time, substitutes should be informed of the building’s substitute procedures.
ID Badge
You are required to wear a District 200 Substitute Staff ID badge while working in District schools. Upon checking in at the office at the start of your assignment, you will be issued your ID badge. You must return your ID badge to the office at the end of the day in order to receive your work receipt. DO NOT TAKE THE BADGE HOME WITH YOU.
End of the Day – YOU MUST REMAIN UNTIL STUDENT DISMISSAL
It is critical that you remain in the building for the District's School Safety Plan. All students must be dismissed safely and all necessary duties completed. You may be asked to assist with student dismissal, even if you have a plan period the last hour of the day. TURN IN YOUR ID BADGE.
Student Safety
Each member of the staff is responsible for the safety of students in their charge. A nurse is on call for each of the schools to assist in situations requiring medical attention. At the elementary level, if a child appears to be ill or hurt, contact the principal's office. Generally a nurse or health aide is on duty at all times at the middle and high school level.
Student Discipline
The teacher has the primary responsibility for discipline in the classroom. The teacher may obtain assistance from the principal, assistant principal or other appropriate school personnel in discharging this responsibility. Corporal punishment may not be employed at any time.
Personal Appearance
As an integral part of this community, the District encourages you to maintain a high level of personal cleanliness, dress and grooming during regular work hours. This will contribute not only to the positive image to our community but also to the morale of your co-workers. You should dress according to the requirements of your position. Blue jeans, t-shirts with logos or advertising, sweat pants and flip flops are not appropriate attire! The exception is school spirit day.
Work Ethic/Conduct
The duties of a substitute extend beyond the classroom, and the substitute is expected to perform other duties, which have been assigned to the regular teacher. Such duties might include hall duty, recess and other supervisory assignments. Clarification of such duties should be made in the morning orientation at the building. Substitutes are expected to observe the same ethical codes as regular teachers. Any comparison of schools, teachers and students is unprofessional. All student records are to be held in the strictest confidence. If a substitute questions conditions in a given school, it is appropriate to discuss with the principal.
District Policies
Substitute/Parent Building Restriction
Effective with the 2006-2007 school year, substitutes who have children attending District 200 schools shall be restricted from substituting in their child’s building.
Authorization for Technology Access (Rights and Responsibilities)
All use of technology shall be consistent with the District’s goal of promoting educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication. The failure of any user to follow the terms of the Authorization for Technology Access (signed at time of employment) may result in the loss of privileges, disciplinary action, and/or appropriate legal action.
Smoke Free/Drug Free Work Place
The manufacture, distribution, dispensation, sale, possession, or use of alcohol or illicit drugs, as well as use of tobacco or tobacco products is prohibited on school property or as part of its activities.
School Safety
Due to the increased awareness of school safety issues, the District Safety Committee requires every adult to assist in drills, lockdowns and evacuations. Substitutes, during plan time are expected to stay and help in case a crisis occurs. Each classroom has District crisis protocol templates provided. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, it is critical that full day substitutes at all grade levels remain until the end of the day and students are safely dismissed. Substitutes may be asked to trade in their car keys for a room/building key when they check in. Your keys will be returned to you when you return the room/building key.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Racial discrimination or harassment by any employee or student directed against any student, parent, or employee shall be grounds for discipline. No student, parent, or employee shall, on the basis of his or her race or ethnicity, be denied equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits, or be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity.
Sexual Harassment
Definition: "Sexual harassment" consists of unwelcome sexual advances; sexual advances to students by staff, whether welcome or unwelcome; requests for sexual favors; and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when made by any member of the school staff to a student or another staff member.
Statement of Policy
A learning and working environment that is free from any form of sexual harassment is essential and shall be maintained. It shall be a violation of Board Policy for any employee of Community Unit School District 200 staff to harass another individual in the work place. Violation of this policy shall be considered grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.
Bloodborne Pathogens
Certain diseases such as Hepatitis B and HIV infection are transmitted by blood and certain body fluids from one person to another. Therefore it is necessary to protect yourself from contact with these fluids in order to avoid exposure to diseases. Many of the people who actually are infected with HIV or HBV have no symptoms and are not aware that they could be transmitting the disease. This is why we use universal precautions when handling blood in the school setting, to avoid contact with anyone else's blood.
You must consider every person, all blood and most body fluids to be a potential carrier of infectious disease. Recognize a situation that might put yourself at risk and protect yourself accordingly.
