Public Invited to High School Dedication and Building Tour
A dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of more than three years of construction and renovation at the two District 200 high schools will be held on Sunday, August 27. The Wheaton North dedication is at 1 p.m. and the Wheaton Warrenville South event at 2 p.m.
The itinerary includes a brief ceremony at each school, followed by refreshments and student-led tours of the building. The public is invited to attend either or both ceremonies and get a first-hand look at the new facilities.
This significant high school building program, totaling more than 300,000 square feet in additions and 181,000 square feet of renovations, marks one of the largest school construction projects completed in the State of Illinois in 2006. The project stems from a $72 million referendum the District passed in April, 2003.
“These high schools reflect the pride District 200 communities have in their schools and provide a learning environment that gives each student an opportunity to achieve at new levels,” Superintendent Gary T. Catalani said. “I invite all residents to take a look at these facilities and witness the significant improvements that are now offered to our high school students.”
Designed by Legat Architects, Inc., each high school has a new
- classroom addition
- College and Career Counseling Center
- field house
- fine and performing arts spaces
- departmental offices
- student resource centers
- multi-use commons area
- improved building circulation
- technology upgrades
“These projects address immediate academic space needs, and enable the district to meet changing curricular needs through technology enhancements and flexible spaces,” says Patrick Brosnan, Project Principal at Legat Architects, Inc. “With these new facilities, high school students in District 200 will have a more stimulating educational environment and easier access to faculty.”
