Environmental Results to be Released on Proposed Hubble Site
Representatives from two environmental firms will discuss the results of their independent studies of the proposed site for a new middle school at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 in the Board Room of the School Service Center, 130 W. Park Ave., Wheaton.
The public is invited to attend the meeting to hear representatives from Mostardi Platt Environmental, Oak Brook, and Environmental, Inc., Addison, summarize their findings, which include an analysis of air, soil and water samples. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
James McNaughton Builders, Inc., owner of the 18 acre site west of Herrick Road between Warrenville and Galusha Roads, hired the Addison firm to conduct a two-phase environmental study of the property. The District contracted with Mostardi Platt to conduct a second, independent study as part of its due diligence prior to making a commitment to purchase the site.
The Board of Education authorized the administration to begin negotiations for the site on May 24. The Board voted in January 2004 to relocate Hubble to a site in the southwest part of the school district. Few sites of the appropriate size and location remain undeveloped in that area. The site currently being considered is one the District originally tried to purchase, but could not reach agreement with the owner on price. The property has since changed hands and the current owner is interested in negotiating with the school district.
