National Poet Laureate Ted Kooser of Washington, D.C. will visit District 200 and its communities. A schedule of events will be posted closer to Mr. Kooser’s visit.

Selected high school student poets and teachers from District 200 have been invited to read a poem at the beginning of the Warrenville City Council meetings.

Poetry students from Wheaton North visited the 7th grade Language Arts classes at Franklin Middle School to teach a lesson in poetry.

Illinois Poet Laureate Kevin Stein read from his work at Barrows Auditorium on the campus of Wheaton College. He also taught several high school classes and presented checks for $100 each to the two high schools for the purchase of poetry collections for the school libraries.

Poet and entertainer George David Miller performed for students throughout the day in the Wheaton North Library.

Students from both high schools gathered at Borders in Danada to read their favorite poems from GOOD POEMS, an anthology edited by Garrison Keillor.

Sponsored by both high schools, a "coffeehouse style" evening was held at Wheaton North where poets from both high schools read their original work in a public forum. Nearly 150 students attended.

Children's poet Jim Aylesworth entertained and taught students at Whittier Elementary School. In the evening, he gave a reading and book signing at the Warrenville Public Library.
