May 6 - National Bike to School Day

    Groundwater
In May and October of 2014, more thank 500 students from Edison, Franklin, Lowell and Whittier schools hosted the first District 200 National Bike to School Days.

Biking to school promotes healthy, physical outdoor activity, educates students to learn about bike safety and reduces congestion and air-pollution emissions since the students ride their bikes instead of taking the bus or car to school.

Last May, more than 120 Whittier students and parents alone participated in the one-day event. Whittier bikers were greeted by Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk and Principal Silagi at Kelly Park while Midwest Cyclery performed helmet and bike safety checks. Wheaton Police officer Jim Dimas joined the students on his bike and aided in the safe crossing of Elm street.

Any school that would like more information about organizing and/or participating in the May 6, 2015 Bike to School Day can contact Jim Knasel at jknasel@sbcglobal.net.
