|September Institute Day - Today
While many students may have enjoyed a morning to sleep in or enjoy spending time outside in the sunshine, District 200 teachers were in our schools working. What do our teachers really do while students have the day off? They take advantage of professional development opportunities to keep them on top of their game!
Today, more than 300 high school staff from North and South gathered together at Wheaton North for a guest presentation on formative assessment. Formative assessments allow teachers to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback that can be used by teachers to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning.
Middle school teachers are working at their individual buildings on two main aspects of our Future of Integration and Technology (FIT) guide - collaboration/creation and standards mastery. Did you read our article a few weeks ago about FIT?
Elementary school teachers worked at their individual buildings this morning and are gathering for staff led presentations and activities of their choice this afternoon at Pleasant Hill and Bower Elementary Schools. Presentations will focus on English/Language Arts instruction.

Bike to School Day - October 7
District 200 participates in National Bike to School day, coordinated by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. Walking and biking bring a sense of joy and independence. Replacing car and bus trips to school with walking or biking can reduce congestion and air-polluting emissions. All bikers must wear a helmet and be accompanied by a responsible adult.
District 200 Bike to School program has grown from four schools and 400 participants in May of 2014 to over eight schools and over 1,200 participants in May of 2015. For more details contact Jim Knasel at firstname.lastname@example.org
