|2nd Annual Special Games
Today, students from Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South High Schools participated in the 2nd Annual Special Games hosted at Wheaton Warrenville South. Nearly 40 students in the Syracuse Program and adaptive physical education classes at both schools competed in sprints, target throws, ladder ball, basketball shooting, floor hockey, relays and bowling.
The Special Games event was organized by Rebecca Blacharczyk (Wheaton North) Matthew Janosek (Wheaton Warrenville South), Michelle Schaffer (Wheaton Warrenville South) and staff from the Instructional PLC and Transition Program.
Students in adaptive PE classes or the Syracuse Program may not be able to participate in physically competitive games during a typical school event. The Special Games brings together both of our high schools and celebrates all abilities.
During the opening ceremony, peer mentors in the Falcon Flock and Tiger Crew, other peer volunteers, along with the participating students, enjoyed a parade of athletes who carried in a torch, the National Anthem, a mascot v.s. principal scooter race and opening speeches.
While the Tiger mascot beat North Principal Matt Biscan in the opening scooter race, ultimately the Falcons took home the Anton Rubenacker Spirit Award.
