Ms. Lisa Volesky
I grew up on a farm in eastern Iowa and decided I wanted to be a Biology teacher when I was in high school. I attended the University of Northern Iowa where I earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Biology Education with a minor in Chemistry Education. After my education at UNI, I student taught and began my teaching career in Chicago Public Schools. I taught at Thomas Kelly High School for two years (Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science) and Northside College Preparatory High School for ten years (Honors Chemistry, Honors Biology, and AP Environmental Science). While teaching at Northside, I completed my MS in Biology with an Ecology focus at Northeastern Illinois University. My first love in science is ecology and my MS research was about invasive species and how they specifically impact environmental factors.
After relocating to the suburbs and staying home with my two young sons, I am so excited to begin teaching again at Wheaton North High School and CUSD200! Having come from a small rural community and school with pride and tradition, the Wheaton culture, community, and people have made me feel like I have found home as a Falcon! Outside the classroom, I enjoy exploring new places, spending time with my family, gardening, knitting, cooking, and hiking.
