Mr. Jordan Yi

Hello! My name is Mr. Yi and I am very excited to be working in CUSD 200 at Bower, Madison, Wiesbrook, Whittier, and Sandburg Elementary Schools this year as the band teacher! My journey in CUSD 200 actually started back in 2010 when I started working with the Tiger Marching Band at Wheaton Warrenville South High School. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working with outstanding students and staff while writing and designing the music and visual packages for their competitive fall program. I also student taught at Wheaton Warrenville South High School in 2012. The district has truly been a home away from home for me and I am overjoyed to work here in my current capacity.

I am a native of Naperville, Illinois and went to Northern Illinois University where I received my undergraduate degree in music education. At NIU I received several honors and awards such as the the Jarrold Zar Endowed Music Scholarship, Sally Stevens Scholars, and Drum Major of the Huskie Marching Band. While being involved in numerous organizations at the university I also performed as a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps where I went on to receive the Cavalier of the Year Award in 2011. After my time as a performer I went on to teach with the drum corps for six years and founded the two time Winter Guard International Winds Independent Open Champions sponsored by the Cavaliers.

In my teaching career I have taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels focusing on student growth and developing programs to meet the expansive interests of my students. My diverse teaching background includes marching band, drum corps, indoor winds, pep band, jazz band, percussion ensembles, steel pan ensembles, music technology, AP music theory, music composition, concert bands, brass ensembles, choir, orchestra, piano and guitar. With these experiences I am ready to serve our students and continue their love of learning through music.

I have continued my education at the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago and I am currently pursuing my graduate degree where I plan to attend Aurora University with a degree in Educational Leadership.

In my free time I enjoy golfing, running, writing music, and spending time with my wife Katie and two year old daughter Brynn.
