    Whittier PTA Logo

Our PTA is a network of Whittier families and staff working together to make our school the absolute best. Our PTA supports and funds curriculum-based programs, field trips, educational opportunities, in addition to special events and traditions, all vital to the Whittier experience. We also help build an important communication link between staff and parents, so please join us so that you’re in the loop!

Here’s a quick alphabetical guide to what we do and how we do it:

Adventure Day – Students choose their customized day of learning from mini-classes taught by community and parent volunteers on the last Friday of the school year.

Amazing Race – Grab a team of 10 and be prepared to conquer several fun challenges on a Friday night in May during this crazy race that’ll take you all over Whittier. This event is held every other year.

American Education Week – For this National PTA event in November, a display is set up in a local venue displaying student artwork.

Art Smart – Once a month students learn about an artist and his or her style. Volunteers spend about 30 minutes with a class and talk about the designated art material. Materials and training will be provided. No art background required!

Beautification – This committee is responsible for making simple improvements to the outside and inside of our school as well as maintaining the planters at the front of the school.

Bike/Walk to School – Twice a year, families are encouraged to walk or bike to school. Students meet up for some fun at a local park before continuing on to school.

Book Fair – Our PTA-sponsored book sale is held in April. Proceeds help fund the Birthday Book program and various library needs.

Book Swap – Students bring in books to swap for some new reads during the Pancake Breakfast.

Box Tops for Education – This is a great way to earn cash for the school and with the new app available for mobile phones it is even easier to record and requires no clipping.

Chess Club – This group of chess enthusiasts meet once a week during lunch. All students welcome. Includes lessons taught by a chess master.

Classroom Funding – Did you know we give every classroom teacher and specialist funds to help them invest in new educational materials and programs?

Conference Supper – The PTA provides two meals for the teachers during the November parent-teacher conferences.

Cooks Night Out – Several times a year, Whittier families support a local restaurant as well as the PTA by having a family dinner at a designated location. Proceeds directly benefit our Whittier PTA program.

Cultural Arts/Assemblies – We plan and fund a variety of enriching opportunities, assemblies and workshops to spark student interest and complement curriculum.

Directory – Organize, prepare and distribute one of the most used resources at Whittier. PTA Membership is per family and includes access to the Whittier directory via DirectorySpot (a free, downloadable app on your cell phone).

eBlasts— Always know what’s going on via our weekly eFolder and other email communications.

FB – Be sure to “like” us on FaceBook and follow us on other social media to see our postings.

Field Trips – Did you know our PTA covers the cost of every field trip for every student all year long? This is our largest budget item at over $10,000.

Fifth-Grade Recognition – We like to give our outgoing fifth-graders a memorable sendoff.

Fifth-Grade Team Day/Fun Day – Our fifth-graders will spend a day in the fall working on team-building activities and a day in the spring celebrating their tenure at Whittier.

Fred – the PTA’s friendly bearded dragon who lives in the Whittier LLC

Go Green – This parent-led student club meets once a month on Fridays during lunch to promote environmentally friendly activities and awareness.

Grant Writing – Help the PTA to access free money by finding and applying for grants.

Hosting Schedule – To simplify and spread out donation requests for food/supplies for PTA festivities, each grade is assigned one event to host by providing needed items: Back-to-School Staff Appreciation Luncheon (3rd grade),  Ice Cream Social (5th grade), Coffee and Kleenex (1st grade), Conference Staff Dinners (2nd grade), Spring Staff Appreciation (4th grade). Donations for Veteran’s Day will be provided by all grades.

Ice Cream Social – This annual back-to-school event is a favorite of Whittier families, providing a chance to meet and mingle, with ice cream sundaes for everyone, of course!

Kindergarten Roundup – A welcome program for incoming kindergarten families held in the spring.

Library – PTA volunteers assist in the day-to-day tasks that keep the LLC running smoothly.

Membership—Please remember to renew your membership annually!

(Don't worry, you don't have bake anything, sell anything, go to a meeting or volunteer if you don't want to! Just join our network of families.) Membership is per family and includes access to the Whittier directory via DirectorySpot (a free, downloadable app on your cell phone).

Officers—The PTA Officers help to organize the plans for the school year and assist as needed. If you have volunteered with the PTA, please also consider a two year Officer position! Open positions will be posted in the spring of each school year.

One Book One WhittierThe entire Whittier staff, students and their families read the same book together with plenty of fun activities along the way.

Pancake Breakfast – At this longtime Whittier tradition, families enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast served up by parents and staff volunteers on a Saturday in January.

People’s Resource Center – Another way Whittier stands out is in our giving to the local PRC. Donated items are collected and delivered to the center by volunteers.

Questions? You can always reach us at WhittierPTA218@gmail.com.

Reading Clubs (Six Flags/Ozzie’s) – An opportunity for all students to read and earn a free Six Flags Great America ticket and/or a free Kane County Cougars ticket.

Reflections – A National PTA program that gives students an opportunity to express themselves creatively and receive positive recognition for original works of art, literature, dance or music inspired by a pre-selected theme.

Retail Donations – Take advantage of various retail programs that give back monetary contributions to our school, such as AmazonSmile.

Room Parents – Coordinate parent volunteers to plan classroom parties. Other responsibilities may include being the contact parent for each classroom, organizing a class gift or being the classroom yearbook liaison.

Scholarship – The Whittier PTA donates to the District 200 PTA Council Scholarship Fund. Our representative participates in the selection of high school seniors who will receive college scholarships.

School Supplies – As a service (not a fundraiser) we coordinate school supply lists with teachers and provide an easy, one-stop shopping link for families the new school year. Supplies are then delivered directly to every student’s classroom before the first day of school.

Screen-Free WeekThe Whittier PTA organizes several events during the week, including daily dress-up themes, Family Game Night, our book fair, the STEM Student Expo and an all-school after school playdate to give our families a break from electronics.

Signature Event – An event held every other year where parents can enjoy a night out, while helping to raise money for a specific school project.

Spirit Wear – Whittier gear is available for purchase in September.

Staff Appreciation Week – National educator appreciation week is held each spring.  Volunteers help recognize our exceptional teachers and staff as well as communicate to families how our students can say “thank you” to those who support their learning.

STEM – Our Science Technology Engineering and Math committee plans our STEM Career Night and STEM Student Expo. Both are fun, family evenings that are held in the Whittier gyms.

Veteran’s Day – At one of our proudest events of the year, veterans are honored at a ceremony held at our flagpole with tributes by students.

Volunteers – We would simply not function without our amazing volunteers! If you’d like to help out with any committee, please feel free to email the respective chairs.

Website—Looking for some info? You always can start at our website,

https://www.cusd200.org/domain/1503, which houses our calendar, forms and other handy docs.

Wildcat Romp & Roar—Whittier PTA’s main fundraiser for the year! Our students collect donations to win prizes and fund the yearly PTA programs. In addition, the students compete in a unique challenge-course race that encourages whole-body fitness - speed, agility, balance, flexibility and endurance. This takes place during P.E. classes and is a great show of Wildcat spirit!

Yearbook – Help us document the year at Whittier! We need your photos!

    We love Whittier.

Did you know that our PTA spends about $100 per student every year on things like field trips, cultural assemblies, classroom materials as well as special events like Veteran’s Day, the Pancake Breakfast and Adventure Day? We support the school’s media center, STEM program and courtyard garden. We create the school directory and yearbook. We also help build an important communication link between staff and parents.

We are 100% volunteer powered and 100% dependent on fundraising.

Please join us. Thank you for your support!
