• Tips to improve your reading and exercise your brain!
The best way to improve reading is to read!  Opportunities to improve your reading are all around you.

Reading tip #1:  You can improve reading skills by listening to books. Listening to books on CD, Playaways and digital downloads allow students to read quality books independently. In addition to a wide selection of popular titles on Playaway or CD, the Wheaton Public Library offers cardholders  audio books via several online services. The librarians at the WPL, or I am happy to help your students set this up.

Reading tip #2:  When reading independently, it is important to read books that can be read comfortably.  You can identify a just right book by seeking books at your Lexile level.  Your teacher can tell you your Lexile level.  You can look on the Lexile site to look-up the level of a specific book or choose a range and the site will give you a number of books from which you can choose.  Check out the link to the Lexile site over of the right side of this page.

Reading tip #3: Looking for a great book? There are a number of sites which include lists of great books.  Check out the links on the right side of this page.
