The Kane County Cougars Reading Club

    is Back at Hawthorne!

All Hawthorne students are invited to participate in this 8-week program in which they can earn a free ticket to a Kane County Cougars Game on May 23, a concession voucher and voucher for a drawstring bag. This year, students who complete the program will receive a Golden Ticket that is good for admission to all of the Cougars' home games this season!

Opening Day for the program is Monday, January 14. The 8-week program is divided into four 2-week segments, with each segment representing a base on a baseball diamond. When a student completes a reading goal, he or she will advance to the next base.

    Hawthorne’s Goal

Grades K-2: read 150 minutes every 2 weeks (about 15 minutes per school day)

Grades 3-5: read 200 minutes every 2 weeks (about 20 minutes per school day)

Reading can include independent reading, shared reading, or being read to by another individual.

Each day that your child makes progress toward the goal, record the time spent reading on the Parent Verification Form (available here in English and Spanish). After each 2-week segment, sign the slip for those two weeks and have your child return it to their teacher. After 1st base is reached, students will receive a bookmark. After hitting a home run, students will receive an order form to redeem for a free ticket!
