Dear 4F Parents, April 2014
I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Spring Break! It is hard to believe we are in the last trimester already! We have had some crazy weather and the last day of school is now Tuesday, June 10th due to the cold days we had off in January.
We have been very busy since we returned from Spring Break. Here is a summary of what we have been up to and what is quickly approaching:
Language Arts- We have completed our unit on sentences and parts of speech. We are writing a narrative about something we did over Spring Break this week and will move into poetry next week.
Reading- We are currently flexible grouping again within all three fourth grade classes. All three classes are reading different novels that are about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. We are all working on questioning, as well as expanding our vocabulary, and connecting reading and writing.
Social Studies- Right now we are completing our study of the Southeast region and will be moving on to the Southwest and West in the next few weeks. There is a quiz tomorrow over lessons 1 & 2 of the Southeast region. The students have a study guide they should have been using to prepare for this quiz.
Science- We are continuing our Human Body research project. The students will be presenting these next week and then we will move onto ecosystems.
Math- Fractions are our focus in math. We have been working on relating them to decimals this week and will be moving to adding, subtracting, and multiplying them in the next few weeks.
The students have filled up the penny jar and we will be having a class party tomorrow to celebrate. They may wear pajamas to school and/or bring a small stuffed animal. We will be watching Lion King during lunch and until math.
Saturday is suppose to be sunny and warm, let’s hope that weather sticks around for awhile J As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me.
