Working with Second Language Learners has been my passion for the past eleven years. I currently work with students in kindergarten through fourth grades teaching both literacy and content. I previously taught in West Chicago for two years in a Spanish bilingual class. I am fluent in Spanish.
I received my undergraduate degree from Roosevelt University. I also have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University as well as a Masters in Reading from Aurora University. Of course my ELL endorsement comes in handy when working with students with different languages. A friend of mine once told me that I was career student because I was always in school. The reality of it is that I truly enjoy taking classes that will provide me with new and improved ways to teach all of my students.
I enjoy reading, walking and cooking. Most of all, I enjoy traveling and meeting new people.
My husband Bill is a Systems Engineer for Hewlett Packard Enterprise and we have been married for almost 30 years. My son is an Iowa State University graduate and a Civil Engineer in Peoria. My daughter is a Bradley University graduate working in marketing.
This is my 5th year as an EL teacher at Lincoln. I began working here in January 2013, as a maternity leave substitute. Luckily for me it turned into a full-time position! I work with K-5th grade students, focusing on literacy skills, Science, and Social Studies. In the past I have been a classroom teacher in Chicago and Bolingbrook, teaching second through fifth grade.
I received my undergraduate degree from Purdue University with a BA in Elementary Education. In 2011, I completed my training to receive my ESL endorsement from Benedictine University. I look forward to going back to school in the near future to continue my education.
I have been married to my husband Tim, for 12 years. We have a 6 year old named Haley, a 1 year old named Logan, and an adorable Schnoodle named Hershey. I love spending time with them in the evenings and on the weekends!
