Reading:
-
Read a variety of texts and try to read every day (20 minutes would be great!)
-
Participate in a reading incentive program (library, Pleasant Hill's, etc.)
-
As you read, write down words that you don't know the meaning of. Then, using a dictionary, find out the definition of each word.
-
Read a chapter book and write a summary about it. Remember, summaries include the main character(s), setting, major problem and solution.
Writing:
-
Keep a daily or weekly journal. Write all about the things happening in your summer. It will be so fun to look back at this when you're in high school (trust me! :) )
-
Write a letter to someone and send it through the mail. That's right, don't send an email; use pen and paper.
-
Send Mrs. Murray an email describing the best thing you have done over the summer. My email address is: anne.murray@cusd200.org.
Math:
-
Pracice and review those multiplication and division facts using flashcards (if you don't have any, make your own!)
-
Ask Mom or Dad to help you cook a meal. By following a recipe, you will most likely need to use fractions such as 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, etc.
-
Serach online for some free math games that you can play.
