Mr. Kenneth Strayve
Mr. Strayve is celebrating his 33 year of teaching in CUSD 200 this year. He has announced that he will be officially retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. He started his career as a physical education teacher and taugh P.E. for 12 years. His next assignment was teaching 5th grade in the 2000-2001 school year. His favorite aspect of teaching is seeing students develop confidence in themselves to create incredible learning opportunities. He believes that students need to find their voice.
Mr. Strayve has a B.S. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a M.A. degree from Aurora University.
When not teaching, Mr. Strayve enjoys any type of construction project. Improving his home or helping others is rewarding. He also enjoys traveling to see new countries and to meet interesting people. Although his travel plans have been limited during the past five months, he did travel for a one week get away to Michigan in July. South Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, and Fennville Michigan are some of his favorite places to visit.
Mr. Strayve's retirement dreams are to expand his small home improvement business. He also hopes to accomplish his dream of building a house with the most perfect front porch EVER! For excitement he is planning on traveling and exploring Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Teaching in CUSD 200 for the last 33 years has been rewarding beyond belief. Mr. Strayve will truly miss seeing students who are eager to learn, but will take the memories of teaching at Washington School with him forever. He wishes to thank every student, family, colleague and administrator he has work with over the years. They have made this an opportunity of a lifetime.
