Dear Parents, Caregivers, Friends, Community Members, Teachers & Staff of our Special Needs Students:
We enthusiastically invite you to join the Wheaton Warrenville Special Needs PTA (WWSN PTA.) Partnerships between parents, educators, community members, and children enhance children’s success. We know that children learn more and have better lives when everyone in the school and community work together to share thoughts and information and work on projects to benefit children. For the 2018-2019 school year, WWSNPTA has the following events:
- Erica Ekstrom; our new Executive Director of Special Education, spoke at our first meeting in September.
- Dr Chris Silagi our new Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. Will be speaking on Social Thinking and 504's in our October 25th meeting.
- Danada Fall Hayride October 14th at 10am, Cosley Zoo Christmas Tree Decorating December 1st at 9am, Springing into Sports & Fun events for the entire family May 4, 2019.
- Special Needs Resource & Information Event, March 2019.
- Staff Grant(s) & Student Scholarship(s) benefitting the special education students
- Previous Grant and Scholarship Awardees share experiences in our final meeting of the 2018-19 school year.
By becoming a member of WWSNPTA, you can become an important part of helping to ensure that these plans become a reality. Anyone who has an interest in the welfare of children with special needs can be a member – including parents, families, teachers, community members, school administrators, social workers, therapists, students, friends, etc. We also welcome your new ideas for the benefit of our children.

General Membership meetings Sept 20th 7pm at Monroe, Oct 25th 7pm at Franklin, April 25th at Monroe. We will hold a Staff/Teacher Membership meeting in February. Thank you for Making the Stuff a Truck Event for the PRC a success in 2017! It was overflowing! We have added the box again last Friday!
Every year the City of Wheaton's Community Relations Commission works to promote and encourage others to participate in National Make A Difference Day (Sat. Oct. 27). They work with local organizations, such as People's Resource Center, to support this day.Please join the WWSNPTA in our Diapers and Wipes Drive
This week of October 22-26. Drop off is at the front office of the School Service Center at 130 W Park Ave, Wheaton, IL 60189. Our $12 yearly Family/ Community Membership fee ($6 Teacher/Staff Membership) supports us reaching our budget goals for our Student Scholarship(s) and Teacher/Staff Grant(s) in April. Last year we were able to support our community in this matter with $250 for Grants and $250 for Student Scholarships. Years previously we were able to award $500 in the Teacher/ Staff Grant. Secretary - OPENThe Special Needs PTA is looking to fill 2 key roles on their PTA: Secretary & TreasurerSecretary:The Secretary role may be smaller than other PTAs.The secretary would be taking minutes for 3 membership meetings:Two General Membership Meetings at 7pmOne General Membership Meeting at 1pmOne Teacher/Staff Membership meeting at at 4 or 7pm.Treasurer :Average annual budget is around 1800.00.Based on previous years of membership of approx 75 members.10 checks were written last year 4 for Counsels, 3 administrative and 3 grants.(For this year: Scholarship(s) checks will also be awarded)The Secretary & Treasurer roles may be smaller than other PTAs.

parent/guardian in District 200 who are paid members of the WWSNPTA. This is the first year of this program, and we appreciate your understanding as we all learn the most effective ways to implement the scholarship program. Please give serious consideration to applying for a scholarship this year; a successful start with many scholarship applications will provide the best possible foundation for a permanent WWSNPTA Scholarship Program. The Executive Board recently met to develop a budget for the 2017-2018 school year. The budget determines how PTA funds are allocated. This budget is available to review by any PTA members by contacting our Acting Treasurer, Sarah Gochee at email@example.com . The PTA will vote on the budget during our General Membership meeting on September, 28th 7pm at Monroe.
