Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Johannesen

I have been teaching orchestra in District 200 since 2004. Prior to that, I taught band and orchestra in Elmwood Park, IL, and directed orchestras in Charleston, South Carolina. For 14 years, I taught Suzuki violin, viola, and cello at Wheaton College, as well as directing orchestra and coaching chamber ensembles. I was lucky to have lessons with Dr. Suzuki starting during my high school  years, and I count him as a major influence in my style and philosophy of teaching. I also studied cello with Christoph Henkel, Gilda Barston, Karl Fruh, Frank Miller, and Tanya Carey, all of whom contributed greatly to my love of making and teaching music. My violin teachers included Won Mo Kim, Eugene Gratovich, and Suzuki teacher training with Kathryn Wood, James Maurer, Rebecca Sandrok, and Alice Joy Lewis, also wonderful influences. In fact, my involvement in music has opened many doors and opportunities I would not have had otherwise!

I love working in District 200. This community is so supportive of education, the arts, and each other. I treasure every day that I work with students here!
