Mrs. Brooke Rodgers
Dear Students and Families,
I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Brooke Rodgers and I am one of Monroe Middle School's new Physical Education Teacher's. I am beyond excited to officially become a part of the Monroe family and teach my main passion: Physical Education with a major focus in fitness, healthy living and lifestyles, character education, and wellness. I received my B.A. in Elementary Education through North Central College and I am also a certified health coach practitioner through The American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I have middle school endorsements in Physical Education, ESL, Language Arts, and Social Science.
The basis of my teaching philosophy surrounds my passion to inspire, encourage, and promote not only a safe, positive, and fun learning environment in the areas of team sportsmanship, positive communication and collaboration, lifelong health, nutrition, and physical fitness; but to inspire and encourage a positive change in the health and lives of my students.
I taught nutrition, fitness, and health for 3 years. This will be my 4th official year teaching Physical Education. For the past year, I worked as a long-term substitute in District 200 at Monroe covering two maternity leaves. I worked as the 6th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher for the first part of the year. During the last part of the school year I covered another maternity leave teaching Math Instruction and 7th Grade Language Arts with a strong focus in providing support for our ELL's. This gave me a great opportunity to connect with the diverse arrray of our amazing students, teacher's, and parents. Prior to this, I worked as the Preschool-8th grade Physical Development and Health Teacher at Chesterbrook Academy Elementary School in Naperville, IL. My first teaching job was at Galapagos Charter School in Humboldt Park in Chicago, Illinois in 2011 when I worked as the K-5 Wellness Instructor. This was the turning point for me that made me realize my love for physical education. I also owned a health coaching practice and spent close to 4 years working with children and families part time during the summer months on how to transform their lifestyle to a healthier, more balanced state while taking their bio-individual needs in nutrition, health, and fitness (emotional, mental, social, and physical) into consideration. I am honored and excited to teach these essential skills and concepts to my students and seeing each of my student's individual growth and progress!
My husband Erik is a former Monroe student and graduate of Wheaton North High School. We both reside in Wheaton with our American Pitbull Terrier named Cash. We love to travel, hike, and spend a lot of time outdoors. In my free time I enjoy running, cooking, reading about health-related articles in preventative health and using food as medicine. I also enjoy creating new fitness routines and circuits (one's I plan to test out on my students :)).
I am looking forward to a great, fit, health transformative year with my Monroe family!
