     Welcome to my classroom

Welcome to Mrs. Wierschem's English class. I have taught for 20 years and have an undergraduate degree in English, a certification in Secondary Education and a minor in Spanish, studying abroad in both England and Spain. I also have a Master's Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught several different classes, including:  Junior I-level English, AP Language and Composition, Freshman I-level English, Senior Rhetoric, Structure of the English Language, Modern Literature, and British Literature. I belong to the National Educational Association and the National Committee for Teaching English. I am a Junior level leader in my department and have worked on several district and building level curriculum committees. Currently I am trained in Level 2 Socratic Seminar, AP reading and writing, Level 3 Kagan Cooperative Learning, At-Risk student training as well as high school reading strategies. My educational philosophy is to challenge students in their reading and writing skills while having fun. It's important for students to learn important skills, such as vocabulary and grammar, but I also want to try and instill an enthusiasm for reading and literature as well as telling their own stories. I encourage students and parents to contact me by email and I am on Google Classroom as well. I'm looking forward to an exciting year!
