Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Nancy Ahrenholz
Welcome to first grade! I am excited to go on the journey into learning with your child this year! I know they will stretch and grow in many incredible ways. I consider it a great privilege to partner with you to make it the most enjoyable and productive time it can be. Please let me know anytime you have questions or concerns about first grade so we can effectively address your child's unique needs in this wonder-filled time of his or her life.
A little bit about me: I graduated from Wheaton College in 1986 with a BA in Elementary Education. My husband Mark and I have 4 children and one daughter-in-law. Our youngest daughter is a junior in high school, and our middle daughter and son are a junior and freshman at Wheaton College. Our house is feeling emptier this year! We live in the St Charles area where we enjoy getting outdoors to run or walk around our neighborhood trails. My other interests are reading, taking fitness classes, and playing with art supplies!
In addition to my BA, I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and an ESL endorsement from Concordia U. Chicago. My teaching experience includes preschool, Kindergarten, first and third grade. This is my 18th year in District 200--all but 2 of them in first grade. It's my favorite! I love the opportunity to build a strong foundation in young readers/writers/mathematicians. My ultimate goal is to make our classroom a safe and joyful place for your children to establish habits that will shape them into eager lifelong learners. A fun fact is that my classroom shares the courtyard with the library, so we head out there to use it as our outdoor classroom whenever we can! We call our class "1A" and we develop a happy class culture of caring, support and fun. We also love to work with Miss Heppe's class often-- reading, singing and doing math together each day. Welcome to our community!
I truly look forward to getting to know your child and family as we work together this year! Please come introduce yourself whenever you get a chance.
