    About Amnesty International

    • Amnesty international is a not-for-profit global organization, consisting of over 3 million supporters, members and activists
    • It works in over 150 countries and territories to defend human rights and social justice, with offices in 80 different countries
    • They campaign against infringements of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards
    • Amnesty International does not work under any government, political ideological, economic interest or religious pretenses
    • Started in 1960 after Peter Benenson’s article “The forgotten Prisoners” which led to the campaign “Appeal for Amnesty 1961"

    • Write for Rights (sending letters to politicians and victims of crime)
    • Fundraising nights
    • Movie nights
    • Join peace demonstrations in Chicago
    • Peace garden in the courtyard
    • Attend speeches and informational meetings
    • Volunteer in the community
