Washington’s Ice Cream Social – Once Again the Perfect Kick Off to a New Year!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ice Cream Social this year! We especially want to thank Mrs. Craig and the many staff members who came out to celebrate the new school year with students and their families.
A tradition at Washington for as long as anyone can remember, the Ice Cream Social was a warm welcome back to school for Washington families and staff on Friday, August 25. The evening was a great chance to catch up after summer break, to meet teachers, and to get to know classmates. In addition, PTA representatives were available to discuss membership, upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities. Thank you to everyone who signed up help our students through PTA Programs and to the 50 new members who joined the 2017-2018 PTA that evening.
By design the event is a community builder and not a fundraiser. The ice cream and water are offered for sale to cover the cost of the event and priced at $1.00 per item for simplicity. This year, the event brought in $639. Expenses were $197 for ice cream and an estimated $75 for water, ice, table covers etc. Funds brought in excess of event costs, currently a total of $367, will support PTA programming in 2017-2018.
Like all PTA events, the Ice Cream Social was made possible through the efforts of volunteers. Special thanks to the following event volunteers: Beth Ciabattari, Sarah Herr, Amy Jones, Lynn Kadel, Adrianne Karlovitz, Steve Karlovitz, John Klich, Josh Moore, Mary Moore, Erin Olsen, Gene Olsen, Diane Peters, Kathy Radojkovic, and Judith Zapf. Another thank you goes to Cher Kachelmuss for taking pictures for the yearbook. Thanks too to the Wheaton Rams for their help with table moving, and to our youngest helpers Alex K., Analese O., Emily O., Jana K., Nick K., Patrick Z., and Vanessa K.
A giant thank you goes to Ice Cream Social Chairperson, Clariza Varney, who orchestrated the event this year. This Clariza’s last year chairing this event and she made it look effortless and easy. We all know that only happens when a lot happens behind the scenes. Thank you Clariza for managing a great start to our school year!
Our plan is to continue the tradition in 2018-2019; and we're delighted to report that Katie Alongi has volunteered to be the 2018 Ice Cream Social Chairperson. Thank you Katie from all of us!!! if you’d like to be a part of the 2018 team, click here: Ice Cream Social Volunteers – 2018.
