When does registration for Summer 2023 open? 
Families may register for online summer school from  February 10 - May 12, 2023. Registration and payment will occur online on the District website. 

When are the sessions?
Session 1 - June 6 - June 29
Session 2 - July 5 - July 27

How much time each day will my child need to spend on his/her course?
Depending on the student and depending on the course, the time commitment will vary, but plan for 3 to 5 hours per day. Students are completing a semester-long course in 3 weeks.

What is the nature of these courses?
Courses are completely online and self-paced. There is no required online synchronous learning; however, teachers do hold virtual office hours to offer additional support for students.

Where can I find out more about the courses that are being offered?
A complete list of courses and their descriptions are available below. All courses will be taught by District 200 teachers. Some courses may have limited seating, so register early if possible.   

What is the cost of the course?
$185 per semester 

I would like to cancel my summer course registration.
- If you cancel your session on or before May 12, 2023, you will be refunded the cost of the class minus a $25 non-refundable processing fee.
- If you cancel your session on or between May 13 - June 6, 2023, you will receive a partial refund of $105.
- If you switch sessions on or after May 13, 2023, you will be refunded the cost of the class minus a $25 non-refundable processing fee.  You may then register for the new session.   
- After the first day of each summer school session, no refunds will be issued.

If I have a fee waiver, will the fee waiver cover the cost of summer school?
Yes

I am taking an online course, so where do I do the testing or the finals?
The course is online. All assignments and tests are completed online. 

Is the summer classes informational night for students and parents? If we can't make it, can we still get the information? Where or how do we get the information? 
The Summer School Orientation Night is May 31, 2023, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm via Zoom. If you cannot make the meeting, the information will be emailed to all students enrolled in a course. However, attendance is highly recommended to ensure success in online summer school.

District 200 High School Summer School Course Offerings

Communication Studies - Session 1 or Session 2
Grades 10,11,12
Communication Studies is designed to improve the student’s research, organization, analysis, writing, speaking, and listening skills. A variety of communication experiences will be studied and performed as the major focus of the course. The skills mastered in this course are applied throughout the entire high school curriculum.
1 Semester

American Government- Session 1 or Session 2
Grades 10,11,12 (and completed US History)
How is democracy reflected in the three branches of the American system of government? In this course, students will study the primary concepts of the American political system, including its foundations, structures, and political behavior. This course does not simply look at the institutions of the federal government but also examines the three branches of government, political parties, and the election process.  Emphasis is also placed on the role of the citizen in a democratic society. Successful completion of this course satisfies the American government graduation requirement. 
1 Semester

Consumer Economics - Session 1 or Session 2
Grades 10-12 
This course offers students an alternative to a traditional classroom setting while meeting the State of Illinois graduation requirement. This course provides information about our economic system, the nature of capitalism, the consumers’ function within free-market economies, and personal finance management. The purpose of this course is to assist students to become informed citizens, equipped with knowledge about their consumer rights. Students learn to make intelligent choices related to money management, credit rights and responsibilities, credit management, and various other aspects of personal finance.
1 Semester

Health Education Session 1 or Session 2
Grades 10-12 (and completed Freshman PE and Wellness)
This course will provide students the opportunity to develop an understanding of health issues and wellness concepts while enhancing communication skills via online technology. Students receive knowledge and skills that empower ownership of learning and health. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, mental health, drugs and substance abuse, and human relationships.  Learning experiences will promote positive attitudes, favorable health behaviors, and personal responsibility for lifelong wellness.
