Ms. Cathy Maurer
My family moved to Wheaton when I was two years old and have lived my entire life in this area. I attended St. Michael elementary school and St. Francis high school in Wheaton. I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at National Louis University in 1996 and returned to NLU to complete my MEd in Special Education in 2008. A few years later, I completed my ESL endorsement at Aurora University. I currently live in Lisle with my two cats; Miss and Cara.
I have been teaching in Community Unit School District 200 since 2003. My first year teaching in the district was at Bower Elementary. The following school year I found my true home at Jefferson Early Childhood Center. The joy of teaching for me is in guiding young children as they explore their world and learn new things each day.
I have been an active member of the Jefferson Green Team since it was founded in 2008. All of the empty juice pouches and applesauce pouches that are collected in the school building are processed and shipped out to Terracycle from my classroom. The school receives $0.02 per item that is sent to Terracycle. We have raised over $800 since 2008. Money raised from our recycling efforts is used to purchase educational material for the building. In February of 1014, we purchased 3 new mini trampolines for the building using money raised from our recycling program. Click for more information about Terracycle
