What do School Psychologists Do?

School psychologists are unique members of the school team with expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior. They collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators and other support personnel to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

School Psychologists may contibute to the success of students by:

  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems

  • Participating in full case study evaluations to determine eligibility and for special services

  • Working with school staff to understand data and plan for evidence-based interventions to improve academic achievement and social-emotional well-being

  • Assisting in crisis de-escalation and intervention

  • Providing individual or group counseling or intervention services

  • Promoting tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity within the school community

See Nasp Online from the National Association of School Psychologists for further information regarding how school psychologists support students in schools.

Mrs. Danielle Griessler

Mrs. Danielle Griessler

Hello! At Bower, I support Grades K-2 as well as our ESSENTIALS/SAIL Classrooms. As a school psychologist, I work with teachers, students, and families to ensure ALL students are learning and growing in their academic, behavior, and social/emotional skills. During the school day you may find me facilitating small groups for skills such as self-regulation, modeling different behavior management strategies, consulting with teachers about academic instruction, problem-solving with students, or conducting evaluations to secure special education services for our students with disabilites.

I have an undergraduare degree in psychology from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and a master's degree in education as well as an education specialist degree from National Louis University. Outside school hours, I enjoy reading fiction novels, DIY projects, exercising, traveling and spending time with my dogs.
