A special Thanksgiving message from Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler:
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to share a heartwarming experience I had last week that truly embodies the spirit of gratitude. I had the privilege of visiting Mr. Ellison’s third-grade class at Lincoln Elementary School for a special Thanksgiving-themed activity. The students were asked to write down things they were thankful for on a “coffee cup” cutout and then bring their creativity to life by coloring it in.
What made this activity so meaningful wasn’t just the colorful coffee cups—it was the thoughtful and heartfelt reflections shared by the students. After completing their designs, many eagerly stood up to share their lists with the class. Their expressions of gratitude included things we can all relate to—family, a warm home, food, pets, faith, and school—as well as some unique and personal touches, like dirt bikes, Taylor Swift, video games, upcoming birthdays, and favorite hobbies.
As I walked around the classroom, listening to their thoughtful and enthusiastic answers, I was reminded of the beauty in pausing to appreciate what fills our cups with gratitude. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of daily life, especially during the holiday season, but moments like these encourage us to slow down and reflect on what truly matters.
So, as you pour yourself a cup of coffee during the Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to think about what fills your cup with gratitude. In our fast-paced lives, it’s important to take a step back and appreciate the many blessings that make our lives full.
On behalf of the entire CUSD 200 family, I wish you a joyful Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, laughter, and cherished moments. May you take this opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy meaningful time with your loved ones.
