Prior to becoming the principal of Clifford Johnson Elementary School, Derick was a classroom teacher in East Aurora District 131. He taught both 4th and 5th grade.
After teaching, he was hired as the assistant principal of Clifford Johnson Elementary School. He spent 2 years as the assistant principal before being promoted to principal at Johnson. Derick has been the principal of Johnson for 17 years.
He currently holds two Masters degree in education and has his type 75 administrative certificate. He is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership.
Derick believes that all students have the ability to learn and it is the school's responsibility to provide the necessary rigor, the necessary social-emotional support, and guidance so that all students are successful and reach their greatest potential.
