Committees

Interested in volunteering? The Madison PTA has a wide array of committees and activities for you to participate in.

Art Appreciation

Volunteers present artwork from the PTA collection to their assigned classrooms on a once a month basis for about 20 minutes. A schedule and additional reference material is provided.

Battle of the Books

Parents of participating 4th & 5th graders meet every week from September to March, reading books and preparing for Battle at the Wheaton Public Library.

Beautification

No gardening experience necessary! Just a willingness to help pull some weeds and plant some flowers to enhance our grounds in the late summer and spring.

Chess Club

The Chess Club meets weekly in the evening and runs from early October through the end of March. Whether you know a little or a lot about chess, volunteers are needed for general supervision at meetings and at tournaments.

Communications

Volunteers help manage various aspects of PTA communication. Roles include updating Madison PTA website, editing & distributing PTA newsletter, online payment system administration and social media administration.

Explore More Day

Held the Friday before Memorial Day. Daylong program of learning from parents, guest teachers and hands on activities. Sub-committee volunteers are needed for each grade, along with volunteers to teach classes, and help instructors in class.

Field Day

Parents are needed to supervise outdoor activities and games. This event takes place during the school day in late May.

Fifth Grade Celebration

Parents of 5th Graders are needed to plan and supervise this fun end of year event, usually held in the last few days of school.

Go Green

This committee brings more environmental awareness to Madison. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate different events and collections.

Madison Cares

Help promote good character in all of our students. Volunteers plan and help with various activities during the year.

Math Club

Volunteers help run the activities with the kids. They meet during lunch once a month. For kids in grades 3-5.

Meet & Treat

Volunteers are needed to serve up treats. This annual event takes place in August before school starts. Students meet their teachers, see their classrooms and enjoy an ice cream treat in the gym.

Multicultural Day

The sharing of varied heritage from around the world makes this an exciting and educational day. Usually held in November. Sub-committee volunteers are needed for each grade, along with volunteers to teach classes and help instructors in classes.

New Family Welcoming

We all know how confusing it can be at a new school. Volunteers welcome and provide guidance to the new families of Madison.

Pancake Breakfast & Book Swap

Volunteers are needed to plan, help in the kitchen (Madison staffers flip the pancakes!), set up and clean up, as well as work the book swap & recycling effort. This popular event is held during the winter.

Picture Day

Help things go smoothly on picture day in late August or September Escort students to photo session. Chairman acts as liaison between vendor and Madison School. Helps ensure timely delivery of photo packages typically by late October.

Reflections

This National PTA contest promotes the fine arts for drawing, music, writing, and photography. Parents can help in promoting the program and stimulating interest (September and October).

Room Parent Coordinator

Oversees the activities of all the room parents and acts as a liaison between room parents and the PTA executive team. Prepares Room Parent folders and collects them at the end of the year. Arranges for Room Parent sign up and works to ensure placements.

Scholarship Representative

Attends 2 morning meetings in late Feb/Early March and judges/ranks scholarship applications from seniors at WWSHS and WNHS. Attends scholarship ceremony in April.

School Supplies

Organizes the ordering of classroom school supplies for the students beginning in the late spring for the following school year. Committee chair places order with designated vendor. Volunteers help sort and deliver to classrooms by 1st day of school.

Spirit Wear

Help coordinate the design, order, distribution and sale of Madison Spirit Wear.

Staff Appreciation

Help us show the Madison staff just how much we appreciate their efforts in helping our kids. Appreciation is shown through quarterly events with the final event being held in conjunction with national Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

Trivia Night

A PTA social and "FUN"draising event held in the fall. Teams compete by answering sets of trivia questions. Help plan and implement this fun, social experience for Madison parents and staff.

Yearbook

Volunteers are needed at each grade level to take digital photos of school activities throughout the year and help in the assembly of the yearbook. The bulk of the work is done in January and February. Fun computer software is provided for each volunteer.
