Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee

The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) serves as a collaborative bridge between the bilingual community within the EL Program and Community Unit School District 200. Our mission is to foster strong partnerships with families, promote the academic and linguistic growth of our students, and ensure access to high-quality programs that support bilingual learners and their families.

What is a BPAC?

  • Represents the interests of EL students in TBE program(s), their parents/guardians, and community members.

  • Ensures the district recognizes these community voices and acts to meet their needs.

  • Advises and focuses on helping bilingual parents and community members better understand bilingual programming.

  • Advocates for the academic needs of EL students.

Objectives of the BPAC Team:

  • Establish a clear and collaborative voice between the bilingual community of the TBE/TPI ELL Program and Community District 200

  • Promote and encourage respectful parental participation in educational and academic programs for our students.

  • Promote parent training so they can support their children with school work.

  • Conduct a bilingual program network that promotes and supports cultural events.

  • Collaborate with other parent organizations (PTA) or school teams in supporting students.

The Committee Shall:

  • Meet at least four times per year.

  • Determine, plan, and manage activities and duties in regard to the committee, including the election of officers and the establishment of the committee's rules, guidelines, procedures, keeping minutes, recruiting other parents etc.

  • Participate and assist in the organization of workshops for parents about bilingual education and effective parenting.

  • Be a liaison between the school district, the parents, and the community.

  • Review the TBE/TPI Program and offer suggestions to better serve students.
