School Calendar

The State of Illinois has specific requirements for the school calendar. The calendar is to include 185 days with a minimum of 176 days of actual student attendance.

Definition of Calendar Terms

Institute Days – Institute Days are full-day programs with activities pre-approved by the Regional Office of Education (ROE). Students do not attend school on these days. Institute Days are reserved to prepare for the opening of school or to provide training for teachers and staff.

Non-Attendance Days – Non-Attendance Days are days that the Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education has determined school will not be in session.

Emergency Days – The state requires that five Emergency Days be included in the calendar at the end of the school year. These days serve as make-up days to be used if the weather or other emergency prevent students from being in school the required 176 days.
