Each month, nearly 250 families in need in CUSD 200 receive a week or more of groceries through the Mobile Food Markets sponsored by the Student Excellence Foundation.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation has fully funded these markets to ensure families have consistent access to healthy food, said Terese Janik, Foundation Board Co-President.
Mobile Food Markets take place once a month at either Johnson Elementary School or the Villagebrook Apartments from 4:30–6:00 p.m. “We don’t turn anyone away,” Mrs. Janik emphasized. Families receive milk, eggs, protein, fresh produce and pantry staples at each event. Times and dates can be found on the Student Excellence Foundation website.
The Foundation partners with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to make these markets possible. Each month, volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute food. Volunteers can sign up by contacting Terese Janik at 630-677-8299 or terese.janik@studentexcellencefoundation.org.
