Wheaton/Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 parents are invited to a free, community-wide event focused on protecting children in today’s digital world. Keeping Our Kids Cybersafe and Empowering Parents will be presented by Detective Rachel Reiger (RET), a nationally recognized Child Abuse Investigator Specialist, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 12:00–1:30 p.m. at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 Blanchard Ave., Wheaton.
The session will provide parents and caregivers with information they need to help keep children and teens online. Topics will include:
Understanding cybercrime and the reality that “no one online is anonymous.”
Protocols for responding when a child discloses cyber-bullying, sexting, or sextortion.
How to report criminal cyber-bullying.
The dangers of many popular apps.
How internet investigations are conducted using subpoenas and search warrants.
Social media laws, including harassment, cyberstalking, and false impersonation.
Protecting your “digital footprint” and what it means for the future.
Empowering yourself to report cybercrime and harassment.
The session will conclude with an open Q&A forum, giving parents an opportunity to ask questions directly.
