Wolverine football kicked off in September with a huge surprise right off the bat. On September 5, winning on a miracle hail mary over Western Michigan was not what Kyle Whittingham, Michigan Head Coach, and his squad expected. After one hail mary out of the back of the endzone went out of bounds, officials reviewed it discovering there was apparently one second left. However, on the regular game clock from the TV and stadium, there was no time left. The review camera used by the BIG 10 (the Big 10 actually confirmed this) showed one second. Time for Hail Mary #2. This time, Michigan was successful. Bryce Underwood, Michigan Quarterback, threw up a literal prayer and J.J. Buchanan caught it and saved the Wolverines from a huge loss. Russ Kavalhuna (Western Michigan president) said that “Western Michigan university won that football game.” Western Michigan made a huge mistake. Nobody was actually in front of J.J. Buchanan. If they were, the defender could have stuck his hand(s) through J.J.'s hands and either intercepted the pass or dragged J.J. Buchanan out of the end zone resulting in a Broncos win.
J.J. Buchanan makes a huge catch
Kyle Whittingham noted that Bryce Underwood remains the quarterback for now while stressing the need for improvement and added that the team must work its own way out of their current struggles. Bryce Underwood: Responded to coach comments by noting he hadn't seen them, and emphasized the need for the offense to maintain aggressive energy throughout the game.
After Michigan fell out of the top 25, they were up against #11 the Oklahoma Sooners the following week. Michigan took over the Sooners in the first half up 10-0 at halftime, but the Sooners weren’t a top 15 team for nothing. They scored 10 points of their own. However, Michigan delivered the final blow. After Jordan Marshall rushed in the end zone in the 4th quarter, Oklahoma never scored again. Bryce Underwood was the star of the game. Rushing for 87 yards and a TD while passing for 111 yards. Michigan strikes back and the Wolverines have a shot at making the 12-team College Football Playoff this year(CFP).
