Premier League News: Man City Found Guilty on 114/115 Charges
By: George Ingarra
On Friday, September 25, Manchester City was found guilty on 114 out of 115 charges. The charges have come over the course of the past three years. Let's break down what had happened.
What Happened?
Man City was found to be guilty on 114 out of 115 financial charges. Richard Masters, Premier League CEO, stated that City had “broke Premier League
rules for nearly a decade,” (Ogden). Man City had been arranging fake contracts with commercial partners to increase their earnings. They had also filed misleading accounts to hide the true amount of their money and severely went over Premier League and UEFA spending limits, getting caught increasing their revenue with 1.08 billion from 2009-2018.
What is the Punishment?
It is undecided so far and will be held in a separate hearing, but it might seem like it will be relegation, points deduction, titles stripped, and a possibility to be kicked out of the league entirely! I do not know for sure what it will be, but I will keep watching and make a short article when I find out.
What’s Next for Manchester City?
When the sentencing is finalized, I think a lot of players are going to leave. This includes Erling Haaland. While it is undecided what is going to happen next for the Norwegian star, he is drawing interest from other clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich. It is yet to be decided!
