Description

Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English language arts and mathematics to all students in grades 3-8.Details such as exact testing windows will be provided as the state releases information.

Illinois Science Assessment (Grade 8, April)

The Illinois Science Assessment will be administered in the spring in an online format and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which were adopted in 2014.

PreACT (Grade 8, September or October)

The PreACT 8/9, is an online standardized test which serves as the starting point for the ACT suite of assessments. The system culminates with the ACT, a college-placement exam currently administered in the State of Illinois to all high school juniors.

District 200 will use eighth grade PreACT 8/9 scores for multiple purposes. They provide one of the data points for high school course placement, a baseline for measuring growth during high school, and information for school and district improvement. The PreACT 8/9 contains four subject tests which align with the ACT assessments your student will take in high school. These include English, math, reading and science.

While it provides one score to use for placement, PreACT 8/9 will not be the only measure used to determine freshman courses.  Other data points will also be considered for placement, including state test scores, district assessment data, grades, attendance, and feedback from teachers and parents.

District Assessments (Grades 6-8, September, December/January, May)

Student Assessment Link

District Assessments aligned to curriculum in reading and math are administered in the fall, winter, and spring to monitor student progress and to guide instruction at the classroom, school, and district levels. The assessment questions and passages are selected by district teachers from a commercially written and validated item bank to align to the district curriculum. Cut scores that predict College & Career Readiness are set based on district correlation studies.

FastBridge aReading (Grades 6-8, September, December/January, May)

Adaptive Reading (aReading) measures decoding and word identification skills, and comprehension with this fully automated, computer-administered assessment. It is used for both screening and monitoring student progress grades K-12.

FastBridge aMath (Grade 6, September, December/January, May)

aMath is highly researched and based on the recommendations of the National Math Panel (2008) and the Common Core State Standards. Students who progress at a typical pace through their math curriculum meet the standards for expected performance. Students with deficits in achievement are identified via aMath to receive further instruction.

FastBridge SAEBRS / mySAEBRS (Grades 6-8, September, December/January, May)

The SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief, norm-referenced tool for screening all students to identify those who are at risk for social-emotional behavior (SEB) problems. SAEBRS is one of the only SEB universal screening tools built to align with a dual-factor model of student social-emotional functioning, which asserts that mental health should be defined by both the absence of problem behaviors and symptomatology (e.g., internalizing and externalizing behaviors) and the presence of well-being and competencies (e.g., social-emotional skills).

ACCESS for ELs (February/March)

This test of proficiency in the English domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing was designed by a national consortium and has been mandated as an accountability measure by the State of Illinois for English Learners (ELs). District 200 has developed rigorous growth norms and a system for identifying gaps in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Data is used to exit students from the EL program and to guide instruction at the classroom, school, and district levels.

Signs of Suicide (Grade 8,  October/November)

Edison SOS Signs of Suicide Brief Screen for Adolescent Depression

Our school uses SOS Signs of Suicide, a suicide prevention program that educates students about the relationship between suicide and depression. We encourage all students to seek help from trusted adults whether they have concerns about themselves or a friend using the ACT® message. Key Message of SOS: ACT--

Acknowledge that you are seeing signs of depression or suicide in yourself or a friend and that it is serious.

Let your friend know how much you Care about them and that you are concerned that they need help.

Tell a trusted adult that you are worried about yourself or a friend.
