National PTA has a long-standing commitment to arts education. The Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

Since 1968, Americans have recognized the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States and have celebrated their heritage and culture, particularly from September 15 through October 15th, during Hispanic Heritage Month. Daily announcements will help Huskies share in this special annual tribute by learning about and celebrating the generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
Today's trivia question: Why does Hispanic Heritage Month begin on September 15th?
Answer: September 15th was chosen as the kick-off date for Heritage Month because it is Independence Day for Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras (all in 1821).

It’s so much fun seeing our students outside of the school day! Today, Mr Hiben and Mr Schmidt went to watch Hubble 8th graders compete and cheer at the Wheaton Rams game! We also found some fellow spectators cheering on our huskies!
Students in Ms Wachter's science classes have been busy building rafts to hold pennies. Through the activity, students have been learning the engineering process!

We have received a few emails from families asking about air conditioning on our buses. Our buses do not have air conditioning unless your child has a health plan that requires transportation on an air-conditioned bus. Drivers will open windows to promote air circulation and students are encouraged to dress for the weather. If your child does not tolerate heat well, parents may want to consider driving to/from school or carpooling later this week.
We also encourage families to hydrate outside of school hours and send students to school with water bottles. Parents with specific concerns regarding their own child(ren) may contact their child’s teacher and/or principal.

Forecasts for Wednesday, August 23, and Thursday, August 24, are predicting temperatures in the high 90s and possibly into the 100s. We want to inform you about our plans for ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff during these periods of high heat.
Our schools will use the Child Care Weather Chart below to determine if it is safe for students to go outdoors for recess, P.E. class, or similar activities. If a combination of temperature and humidity results in a heat index in the red category, students will remain indoors.
Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South High Schools will follow guidance from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Both of the high schools will provide direct communication to students and families regarding modifications to practices, contests, and game schedules. All middle schools will follow the weather chart recommendations and will communicate directly to their school communities about modifications to their athletic practices.
In addition to monitoring the weather, beginning this evening, all District 200 schools will continuously run all air conditioning units through Friday evening to ensure our schools can maintain a comfortable temperature for students and staff.
Parents with specific concerns regarding their own child(ren) may contact their child’s teacher and/or principal.

Teachers never stop learning! This year, in partnership with the WWEA, the District is implementing a New Teacher Mentoring Program! All new certified staff members will be paired with formal mentor who will assist them in adapting to the school climate and culture and guiding them through curriculum, teaching strategies, communication skills, and more. Today, mentors were at the District office for an overview and training. #YourCommunitySchools

Cindy has many fond memories that span her 32 years in the District. She really loved all of the college students that worked with her during the summers. It was always an adventure teaching them how to drive the forklift! In retirement, Cindy looks forward to exercising and paddle boarding. She is especially excited about the freedom retirement brings!

Marcia has enjoyed her many conversations with incredible children. She has sparked hundreds of teachers and children to understand the importance of creativity and its impact on learning through programs and museum exhibits that she has developed. Marcia is looking forward to creating art and keeping her house clean when she retires. She has loved every minute of working with the staff and children at Lowell Elementary School. It has been an incredible way for her to end her career.
