Bus Routes

• Outdoor supervision starts at 9:00 AM. Students should not arrive at school before 9:00AM.

• The only adult supervision after school is at the pick-up lanes and bus supervision.

• Students should not remain on school property after school unless properly supervised by their own parents/guardians.

• Student drop-off starts at 9:00 AM.

• The on-site location for dropping off your student(s) is the marked student drop-off/pick-up zone in the lot at the north end of the school building.

• When dropping off your student(s), enter the lot at the north end, stay in the marked lane, pull all the way up to the next available spot, and have your child exit your vehicle on the passenger side.

• Do not leave your car unattended or block traffic flow. Please be reminded that it is in violation of the law to leave young children unattended in a vehicle.

• Do not cross the marked walking path when dropping off your child.

• When picking up your student(s), please go to the end of the queue on Woodlawn, enter the lot at the north end, pull forward to the next available spot in the marked lane, and have your student(s) enter the vehicle on the passenger side.

• Out of respect for our neighbors, do not turn around in or block their private driveways.

• If you arrive early, please turn off your engine, as exhaust fumes may be drawn into the building.

• The driveway along Jewell Road at the south end of the school building is the designated drop-off/pick-up location for vehicles with kindergarten students. Other students in the same vehicles may be dropped off and/or picked up at this location.

• Vehicles allowed to use this driveway will be issued a green “K” card to be visibly displayed when dropping off and /or picking up students.

• When dropping off your student(s), enter via Woodlawn, stay along the right side curb, pull all the way up to the next available spot, and have your child exit the vehicle on the passenger side.

• When picking up your student(s), there will be two lines of traffic. Please stay with your car and pull all the way up to the next available spot until you see your student(s).  DO NOT leave your vehicle in a spot that will block the entrance to the driveway.

• Students should NEVER cross the driveway without an escort from a staff member or adult.

• Do not leave your vehicle unattended in the drop-off /pick-up zone.

• If you arrive early, please turn off your engine, as exhaust fumes may be drawn into the building.

• This location is also our bus loading zone. It is against the law to pass the bus when the STOP arm is extended.

To help with traffic congestion and to facilitate safety during our drop-off and pick-up times, you may want to consider an off-site location.  Following are a few suggestions:

• Herrick Road: Students can be dropped off and/or picked up on the east side of Herrick Road facing north.  There is a wide shoulder, and students can walk to school on the sidewalk between Herrick and Sandburg on the north side of Jewell Road.  This area is posted, “No parking, drop-off/pick-up zone only”.  Please do not leave your car unattended.

• Champion Forest: Street parking is available on Champion Forest across Jewell Road from the school.  Adult crossing guards are on duty to help students cross  Jewell Road.

• Woodlawn Street: Street parking is usually available on Woodlawn north of the school property, although this fills up quickly on busy school days like the first day of school.

• Other neighboring streets: There is a lot of parking available on other neighboring streets, and the walk to school is short.

• Good neighbors: Of course, wherever you park, please be considerate of our neighbors (i.e. not blocking driveways and access to mailboxes).

• There is no parking on the east side of Woodlawn Street during our arrival and dismissal times of 8:45-9:15 AM and 3:15-3:45 PM.

• Dropping off or picking up a student on Woodlawn Street is not allowed unless you are parked in a legally marked parking space.

• Left hand turns from Woodlawn Street to Jewell Road are not allowed during Sandburg’s arrival and dismissal times.

• Please observe all traffic laws. This includes the school zone speed limit; no cell phone use; and parking restrictions in the fire lane, near crosswalks and intersections, and on Woodlawn across from the school property.

• Even on days when the weather is bad and traffic is heavy, arrival and dismissal only takes 10-15 minutes.  Patience and extra caution are essential to the safe arrival and dismissal of our students.  Thanks for your help.
