A Message From Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler: Last night, voters in our community approved a $151.5 million bond referendum that will allow us to improve safety and security in our middle schools, ensure healthy and accessible buildings for all students, and provide our middle schoolers with 21st century learning environments. According to preliminary results, voters approved the referendum by a 67.9% to 32.1% margin. We are still waiting for some provisional and mail-in ballots to be counted, but we don’t expect the outcome of the referendum to change. Your support is a testament to the values we share as a community that is invested in the future of our students. This journey began in 2013 with conversations about the long-term needs of our schools. Together, we have shaped a plan to address those needs thoughtfully, responsibly, and sustainably. We deeply appreciate the time, input, and trust you've extended to us along the way. Thank you for coming together as a community to prioritize the learning, safety, and well-being of our students and teachers. Read more by visiting: https://bit.ly/3UHDVIJ

Don't forget to vote today on CUSD 200's referendum! This community-driven plan to modernize our middle schools would provide safer and more secure buildings with learning spaces that support the rigorous curriculum our community expects and deserves. If passed, it would build pride and bring parity to our four middle school buildings, giving all students the same quality learning opportunities. It could also provide welcoming spaces for the community. All this can be accomplished with a reduction in our Bond and Interest Fund tax rate, for the third time in five years. Please remember to vote today! Polls close at 7 p.m. Learn more by visiting https://bit.ly/4dKR3F3. #YourCommunitySchools

🏈 #ThrowbackThursday to one of Wheaton’s most legendary athletes—Harold “Red” Grange (1903-1991) Red Grange lived in Wheaton and attended Wheaton High School, where he scored 75 touchdowns and 532 points for the football team. After graduation, he attended the University of Illinois, where he made his mark on the Illini football team. He continued his football legacy at the University of Illinois, where he made history on October 18, 1924, during the Memorial Stadium Dedication Game against Michigan. Grange opened the game with a stunning 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and scored three more in the first 12 minutes! Exactly 100 years later, on Friday, October 18, 2024, the University of Illinois rededicated its Memorial Stadium in his honor. This past Saturday, Illini football players wore throwback jerseys and helmets to mark the occasion and defeated Michigan 21-7. After college, Grange went on to play football for the Chicago Bears. The Wheaton Warrenville South High School football stadium is named Red Grange Field in honor of our hometown football hero! #YourCommunitySchools

Hawthorne Elementary School students in the Primary and Intermediate Supportive Academic program (PISA) and Social Academic Integrated Learning (SAIL) programs got together to stretch their math skills and brighten staff members' day by starting a refreshment ordering system. They are infusing technology into learning by utilizing Google Forms to collect requests and using their math skills to calculate order totals and figure out what change they need to give back. What a great way to incorporate real-life experiences and build connections in school! #YourCommunitySchools

Over the past few weeks, more than 35 Wheaton North High School staff members and CUSD 200 Administrators such as Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Schuler, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, Mrs. Melissa Murphy and Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Dr. Chris Silagi, have spent time shadowing Wheaton North High School students for a day. During the Shadow a Student experience, staff members immerse themselves in student life at Wheaton North by following an assigned student's class schedule. At the conclusion of the day, staff and students come together for a debrief to share what they learned and observed. The takeaways have been extremely impactful on the culture and climate of the school, the value of building authentic connections in school, the challenges of balancing academics and extracurriculars and the ability to identify roadblocks that impede learning as well as addressing ways to improve the student experience and planning out long-term changes to be made. Sean Kennedy, an Instructional Coach and coordinator of the “Shadow a Student” program at Wheaton North, highlighted that the “overwhelming amount of interest in the program demonstrates the genuine desire to establish and maintain positive relationships within the building and around the district.” He continued by saying, “The ability for a staff member to step into the shoes of a high school student in 2024 will truly benefit all involved by, at the very least, opening their eyes to a new perspective.” The enthusiastic participation of student volunteers and CUSD 200 staff has made this a successful experience that fosters empathy and drives positive changes in our school culture and instructional practices. Wheaton North will offer this experience to staff members, both in the building and around the district, again this Spring. #YourCommunitySchools
